NEW ZEALAND PĀUA (ABALONE)
Pāua is the Māori name given to three species of large edible sea snails. Known in the United States and Australia as abalone, muttonfish or earshells, in the United Kingdom as ormer shells, in South Africa as Venus's ears and in Asian countries as "Black Gold".
At TNZAC we grow Blackfoot Pāua (Haliotis iris). These have distinctive black meat encased in a beautiful blue shell.
